Scheduled Server Relocation

Apr 6, 2016 | News

As per the email recently sent, our hosting provider is moving servers to a new data centre facility this month, at the date/time indicated.

Expected Downtime: Less than 2 hours

From our provider:

The Migration Process

There is a heavily planned procedure which consists of the following steps:

1 – Shutdown your server (or VPS Node) at our current data centre.
2 – Load your server into our secure transport vehicle
3 – Transport your server to our new facility
4 – Unload, plug in and start up your server
5 – Test to ensure services are back up and running.

Our team will be on-line at all times during the migration providing step by step updates through our service status page and dealing with any issues that may arise during the move.

FAQs

1. What will happen to my server? Does my hardware change? Does my IP Address change? Does my DNS change? What is changing?

The only change that is being made to your server is its physical location. Your hardware, firewall configurations, DNS, IP Addresses, software and configuration settings will remain the same.

2. When will this migration occur?

The migration will be performed over a period of about 4-6 weeks and will begin at the start of April 2016, the hours that the migration will happen will be between the times of 11pm and 4am. We will be sending you another email around two weeks before your server is scheduled to be migrated.

3. What do I need to do?

In most cases, the only thing you will need to do is double check that your service is working as expected after the migration. Our monitoring systems will let us know of issues in most instances but a second set of eyes never hurts! To minimise the downtime for your server, please disable any software updates that may be installed upon startup or shutdown.

4. How much downtime will there be?

This is something that we are working very hard to minimise. The downtime for your server may vary depending on the type of hosting along with a number of other factors. The expected downtime will be up to 4 hours per server, however on average it will be less than 90 minutes.

5. Can I request a specific migration time?

Due to the size and complexity of this project specific requests cannot be accommodated. We are executing the move that the lowest activity times of the day.

6. Will this cost me anything?

No, the migration will be done free of charge and there will be no change to your ongoing server costs.
